The verdict

Nova has Michael Pittman Jr. 70th overall, Tier 6, 17.2 VORP, and the market is drafting him at ADP 71.9. That's a +3 rank edge, which rounds to agreement. So the story here isn't a divergence call; it's a format call. Pittman's S-grade DNA and 73-catch projection make him a perfectly priced PPR WR3 in his new Pittsburgh uniform, and a player you should barely touch in standard leagues, where Nova has him 95th with roughly zero VORP.

By Chris Hanna · updated Jul 11, 2026

Where He's Expected to Land

Nova's median sim gives Pittman about 180 PPR points at 11.11 per game across 16.2 projected games, 73.4 catches, 773.8 yards, 4.7 touchdowns on 6.5 targets a game. That's the fat middle of a WR20–WR70 likely-finish band, with a 31% shot at a tier-2-or-better season and 14% at tier 1.

The format gaps matter more than usual. Full PPR: 70th overall, 17.2 VORP. Half-PPR: 75th, about 7 VORP. Standard: 95th, roughly 0 VORP. Pittman's game is volume catches, not splash plays, every step away from full PPR erases his value.

The Last Three Seasons

Year Team Games PPR Pts PPG Note
2023 IND 16 250.2 15.6 Career-high 109-1,152-4; 18th among WRs in PPR scoring
2024 IND 16 165.8 10.4 69-808-3 on 111 targets
2025 IND 17 202.4 11.9 80-784-7, career-best TD total in a secondary role

The table shows a decline from the 2023 peak, but it hides two things. First, 2025 was a tale of two seasons: FantasyData notes he was producing at a WR8 pace while Daniel Jones was healthy, then faded after the injury. Second, the Colts had already re-centered their passing game on Alec Pierce, Pittman's 21% target share came in an offense that no longer ran through him. Sixteen-plus games in each of the last three years is the durability signal his 86% snap share backs up.

What Changed for Him This Offseason

Everything. On March 9, the Colts traded Pittman and a 2026 seventh-round pick to Pittsburgh for a sixth-rounder, and the Steelers immediately signed him to a three-year, $59 million extension (per NFL.com). His reaction on social media: "BLACK AND GOLD!!!!!!"

A sixth-for-seventh pick swap says the Colts were done; $59 million says the Steelers are not. He turns 29 in October, late prime for a possession receiver whose game was never built on speed.

What Changed Around Him

The environment change is bigger than the trade. Mike McCarthy takes over as head coach, reuniting with Aaron Rodgers, who re-signed to play his age-42 season. Rodgers told reporters the offense is familiar territory, "stuff that we used to run" in Green Bay, per NFL.com.

The volume math favors Pittman. Footballguys' Jason Wood (July 3) notes McCarthy's offenses have averaged a 10th-place scoring finish across 21 seasons and thrown about 584 passes a year, against Pittsburgh's recent 558-attempt average. Rodgers himself averaged over 31 attempts per game in 2025.

And the target tree is nearly empty. Per SI's Shawn Childs (May 14), only two Steelers, Kenneth Gainwell (73) and DK Metcalf (59), caught more than 41 passes in 2025. Pittman walks into the No. 2 target role with no incumbent to displace. The competition to watch is rookie Germie Bernard: Ray Fittipaldo of 93.7 The Fan said on May 29 the Steelers "have designs on getting him involved and getting him involved pretty quickly."

What They're Saying

Beat coverage out of Pittsburgh has been consistent on two points. Mark Kaboly of 93.7 The Fan, May 25: "You could tell the difference offensively just through OTAs and just some of the scheme." The scheme install is real, and Pittman is a scheme fit, the chain-moving intermediate target McCarthy offenses feed.

Pittman himself framed the role at OTAs, telling reporters (via Heavy.com's Ryan Ward, May 20) that "if teams are going to double team him, then that's going to leave me free," and calling Rodgers his second Hall of Fame quarterback after Philip Rivers.

Does Nova already price this in? Mostly yes. The 6.5 targets per game and 73-catch median assume he's the clear No. 2. What the model does not assume is the right tail of the McCarthy volume story, that lives in the 307-point ceiling, not the 180-point median.

The Buzz

The analyst class is louder than the draft room. Wood's July piece is literally titled "Michael Pittman Jr. Is Better Than You Think," arguing rooms drafting him as a WR4 in rounds 8-9 are underpaying. The crowd has been catching up: Childs cited a mid-May NFFC ADP of 102; by July the market price is 71.9. That's a 30-pick climb in two months, the "underrated" window analysts identified in May has mostly closed. Nova at 70 says the current price is now about right.

Swing Factors

  • Rodgers' age-42 arm (±35 pts): Pittman's 2025 splits with and without Daniel Jones show how QB-dependent his production is. A healthy Rodgers season underwrites the whole projection; a midseason decline sends him toward the floor.
  • McCarthy pass volume (+20 pts): ~584 attempts vs. Pittsburgh's recent 558 is roughly 26 extra throws. At a 21% target share, that's meaningful in a projection this target-driven.
  • Bernard's rookie ramp (−15 pts): every snap the "jack of all trades" rookie earns in the slot leaks targets from the No. 2 role.
  • TD regression (−12 pts): 2025's seven scores were a career high on modest volume. Nova projects 4.7, already a haircut, but red-zone work behind Metcalf caps the reload.

If Everything Goes Right

Rodgers plays 17 games, McCarthy's offense throws 580+ times, and defenses spend the year rolling coverage to Metcalf while Pittman quietly eats 130+ targets underneath, the 2023 role reborn. That's the 90th-percentile sim: about 307 points, a top-15 PPR receiver drafted in the sixth round. Nova prices the tier-2-or-better version of this at 31%, the full tier-1 breakout at 14%.

If Everything Goes Wrong

Rodgers looks 42 by October, the Steelers lean run-first to protect him, and Bernard's package grows every week. Pittman's catches stop mattering because there aren't enough of them, and he drifts toward the 67-point floor, Nova's 10th-percentile sim, a waiver-wire name by Thanksgiving. The floor is ugly, but the S-grade DNA says the week-to-week version of this risk is small: when he plays and the offense functions, he delivers his number.

Nova's Edge

Vegas and Nova are staring at the same player. DraftKings posts his receiving yards line at 774.5; Nova projects 773.8, a 0.1% gap, as close to zero edge as the model ever prints. On receiving TDs, Nova leans slightly over the 4.5 line at 4.7. There is no prop to attack here, and we'd rather tell you that than invent one.

The actual edge is structural: an S-grade (Consistent) DNA at pick 70. Most Tier 6 wideouts are volatility bets; Pittman is the opposite, a floor play in a range of the draft where floors are scarce. Add a playoff schedule Nova's page grades soft for Weeks 15-17, and he's built to be in your lineup, not on your bench, when it counts.

The Bottom Line

In full PPR, take Pittman at his 71.9 ADP with confidence, rounds 6-7 in 12-team leagues is fair, and anything in round 8 or later is a value. In half-PPR he's a round later; in standard leagues, let someone else draft him, because 0 VORP means replacement level. He's the WR3 you draft to stop worrying about your WR3, not a breakout lottery ticket, if you want the spike weeks from this offense, that's Metcalf's profile, not Pittman's.

The gradeable claim: Pittman finishes 2026 between 160 and 220 PPR points with at least 68 catches, and if Rodgers starts 15+ games, he beats his 180-point median.
