Davante Adams
Nova has Davante Adams 36th overall, 48.5 VORP against an ADP of 40.6, while the industry argues itself in circles about him (FantasyPros experts range him WR14 to WR32). The market spent all spring fading the 14-touchdown season. Nova's read: the fade is right about the touchdowns and wrong about everything else. You're being offered a 25% target share in the league's best passing offense at a discount because the room can only see one number regressing.
Where He's Expected to Land
Nova's median sim gives Adams 211 points at 14.19 PPR per game across a projected 14.9 games, 67.9 catches, 841.6 yards, 9.7 touchdowns. Note what the model did there: it kept most of the scoring (9.7 TDs, not a collapse to six) and docked him games, not role. His likely-finish band runs WR14 to WR58, which is the honest way of saying a 33-year-old with a V-grade (Variable) weekly DNA has no safe landing spot, just a wide one.
The Last Three Seasons
| Year | Team | Games | PPR pts | PPG | Finish |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | LV | 17 | 265.4 | 15.6 | WR10 (PPR) |
| 2024 | LV/NYJ | 14 | 241.3 | 17.2 | WR14 (standard, per PFR) |
| 2025 | LAR | 14 | 222.9 | 15.9 | WR8 (half-PPR, per FantasyData) |
Finish columns mix formats because the sources report them differently, the through-line is cleaner than the labels: three straight top-15 seasons on three different teams with four different quarterbacks. What the 2025 row hides: 60 catches (44th in the NFL) and 789 yards (tied 34th) propping up a league-leading 14 touchdowns, a career-low 53% catch rate, and a hamstring that ended his season after Week 15, he missed Weeks 16–18, the heart of the fantasy playoffs.
What Changed for Him This Offseason
Nothing on paper, which was itself news. The Rams and Packers held trade talks at the March league meetings before Sean McVay killed them: "If we felt like it was best for our team, we would have done that. We didn't think it was best for our team," McVay said, as reported by Yahoo Sports on May 19. He enters the final year of his deal at a $28 million cap number, per ESPN's Sarah Barshop, who also reported on Feb. 5 that McVay "absolutely" expected Adams back.
The body is the real change. He's 33, turns 34 on Dec. 24, and told reporters in December his "body is getting tired" after 12 seasons, the same media session where he repeated his half-joking, half-serious plan to retire whenever Matthew Stafford does (AP's Greg Beacham, Dec. 11, 2025). Only 19 receivers in NFL history have hit 1,000 yards at 33 or older, a stat Sports Illustrated's Blaine Grisak flagged in his May 11 roster preview.
What Changed Around Him
- Stafford is back, for now. The reigning MVP (league-best 4,707 yards and 46 TDs in 2025) publicly committed to an 18th season at age 38. Every point of Adams' projection routes through him.
- The succession clock started. The Rams spent pick 13 on Alabama QB Ty Simpson. He's not a 2026 threat, but he's the reason a Stafford injury now means a rookie, not a bridge vet.
- New coordinator, same brain. Mike LaFleur left to coach the Cardinals; the Rams promoted pass-game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase to OC on Feb. 20 and added Kliff Kingsbury as assistant head coach. McVay's system, and Adams' red-zone role in it, carries over.
- The tight ends keep multiplying. LA leaned into two- and three-TE sets late in 2025 around Terrance Ferguson, then drafted TE Max Klare anyway. Heavy formations cap three-WR snaps, though Adams and Puka Nacua are the two receivers who stay on the field.
- Tutu Atwell is gone, and the WR3 job is an open camp battle. Fewer mouths, same two alphas.
What They're Saying
The Athletic's Nate Atkins described Ferguson on June 18 (via Heavy's June 20 write-up) as a tight end/wide receiver hybrid and projected him as the de facto third receiving option behind Adams and Nacua, a usage signal that the target tree stays a two-man canopy. Grisak's May 11 SI preview set the sober bar: 750 yards and eight touchdowns would count as a good season, and expecting 14 scores again is unrealistic. CBS Sports (June 8) found the skeleton key to his weekly risk: in the seven games where Adams didn't score last season (playoffs included), he averaged 9.3 PPR points.
Nova has all of this priced. The 9.7-TD projection concedes regression from 14; the 28% bust rate is that 9.3-point no-TD floor rendered as a probability; the 14.9-game projection is the hamstring and the age curve in the denominator.
The Buzz
Fantasy Twitter and the bust-list industrial complex have made Adams a summer punching bag, Fantasy Six Pack's Michael Tomlin (July 3) noted his 12.3% TD-per-target rate ran double his post-2020 norm of 6.15%, and that a normal rate would have dropped him to roughly WR29 in total scoring. The crowd has moved his price from a top-6 positional asset to WR26 by ADP (FantasyPros has him pick 51; Nova's board says 40.6). The fade is rational; Nova's math says it has overshot by about half a round.
Swing Factors
- TD conversion (±60 pts): 14 TDs on 114 targets doesn't repeat. Nova's 9.7 still leans on 32 red-zone opportunities, if that intent halves, so does his weekly ceiling.
- Games played (±45 pts): the projection already assumes 14.9 games, not 17. Every healthy week past that is pure upside on a player who averaged 15.9 PPG in 2025.
- Stafford's health (−50 pts if he misses time): an MVP thrower at 38 with a rookie behind him. Adams' catch rate was 53% with Stafford.
- 13-personnel creep (−20 pts): more Ferguson and Klare means fewer dropbacks with three WRs; Adams keeps his snaps (71% in 2025) but the pie can shrink.
If Everything Goes Right / If Everything Goes Wrong
If everything goes right: Stafford plays 17, the red-zone marriage holds at even a 10-TD clip, and the yardage rebounds toward the 38% air-yards share his usage says he still commands. That's the top of Nova's sim, a 362-point ceiling, and the model gives a tier-1 finish a real 23% chance. That's a WR1 season at a WR2 price.
If everything goes wrong: the hamstring barks in September, Stafford misses a month, and Adams becomes what his no-TD games already showed, a 9-point floor player in his age-34 season. The distribution bottoms at 79 points, and the 28% weekly bust rate matches his boom rate, a coin flip every week. That bust rate, not the age, is why he's a T6 asset on Nova's board despite the top-40 rank.
Nova's Edge
The market and Nova agree on the touchdowns, DraftKings hangs his TD prop at 9.5, Nova says 9.7. The disagreement is the yardage: DK's line is 774.5 receiving yards and Nova projects 841.6, an 8.7% lean over. The player page publishes this as +8 divergence tagged against the Vegas market; his rank-vs-ADP gap (36 vs. 40.6) points the same direction on a smaller scale. Translation: everyone has already priced the TD regression, nobody has priced the yardage recovery of a healthy 25%-target-share receiver. One flag for accountability: the page's +8 divergence figure doesn't cleanly reconcile with the 4.6-spot rank-vs-ADP gap; we're reporting both as published.
The Bottom Line
At pick 40.6 you're paying a fourth-round price for a distribution Nova ranks at the Round 3/4 turn. Take Adams anywhere in Round 4 of a 12-teamer; he's a reach in Round 3, where the same money buys receivers without a 28% bust rate. He's better in half-PPR and standard than full PPR, the 53% catch rate and 67.9-catch projection don't feed reception-heavy scoring, and in best ball, the 28% boom rate does the roster construction for you. Gradeable claim, January edition: Nova says Adams finishes top-15 in half-PPR points per game (42% shot at tier-2 or better) while falling short of 1,000 yards, bank the per-game value, not the volume.
