The verdict

Nova has Courtland Sutton 57th overall, Tier 6, 29.3 VORP, while the room is letting him fall to ADP 70. The page publishes that as +13 divergence: Nova is more bullish on Sutton than the room, by 13 picks. Drafters panicked about the Jaylen Waddle trade, and the model didn't. You're being offered a two-time 1,000-yard receiver with an S+ DNA grade at a price that assumes his role collapsed. Nova says it shrank, and that's different.

Where He's Expected to Land

Nova's median sim gives Sutton 190 PPR points at 11.75 per game across 16.2 expected games, 63.4 catches, 854.1 yards, 6.8 touchdowns on 7.3 targets a game, with 20 red-zone opportunities. The likely-finish band Nova publishes is wide (WR17–WR66), which is honest about what a target squeeze does to a 31-year-old's range. The weekly shape is the real signature: 52% solid weeks, 38% bust weeks, and just 11% boom weeks. He's a floor-and-touchdowns play now, not a ceiling bet.

The Last Three Seasons

Year Team G Rec–Yds–TD PPR Pts PPG
2023 DEN 16 59–772–10 190.2 11.9
2024 DEN 17 81–1,081–8 240.3 14.1
2025 DEN 17 74–1,017–7 219.7 12.9

(Raw lines via Pro-Football-Reference; fantasy points via FantasyData, whose summaries describe 2024–25 as back-to-back top-15 receiver seasons, exact finish ranks weren't published, so you get the points instead.)

Read the trend, not the totals: 50 games played out of a possible 51, but the target share already slid from 24.6% in 2024 to 19.9% in 2025, per Establish The Run's Jack Miller (March 17, 2026), and he still cleared 1,000 yards. The 2023 line hides that he scored 10 times on 90 targets; touchdown rate has been doing heavy lifting for three straight years.

What Changed for Him This Offseason

Almost nothing, and after February, that's worth saying. Sutton's four-year, $92 million extension (signed July 2025, through 2029) survived a self-inflicted scare when his "Chapter Closed" Instagram post sparked trade rumors; Sutton later clarified, per Heavy.com, that he was talking about his eighth season ending, nothing more. He's coming off his second Pro Bowl, he turns 31 in October, and he's still attached to Bo Nix. The age curve is the only thing on his side of the ledger that moved.

What Changed Around Him

Everything else did.

  • Jaylen Waddle is a Bronco. Denver sent Miami a package headlined by the No. 30 overall pick (plus third- and fourth-round picks, with a fourth coming back) in a March blockbuster. Waddle posted 9.1 yards per target in a broken Miami offense; he is real target competition, not a decoy.
  • New play-caller, same offense. Sean Payton promoted quarterbacks coach Davis Webb to offensive coordinator. Webb has described it to ESPN as the same system with minor tweaks, emphasizing pace and substitution management to give Nix more pre-snap time, a tempo bump helps every pass-catcher's raw volume.
  • The draft added nobody who takes his snaps. Denver's 2026 class was future-proofing, tight ends Justin Joly and Dallen Bentley, RB Jonah Coleman, OL Kage Casey. GM George Paton told reporters after the draft that the roster is deep enough that no rookie is likely to step into a meaningful role on a 14-win, AFC West-champion team.
  • More three-wide. Denver ran 11-personnel-style three-receiver sets 63% of the time last year, and ESPN reports Waddle's arrival may push that higher, which softens the zero-sum framing of the target fight.

What They're Saying

Sutton has spent the offseason publicly pricing in his own downgrade. "I want to win games. At the end of the day, I want to win games," he told reporters at a June media session when asked about ceding targets to Waddle (via NFL.com, June 6). He added that "the targets will come", and NBC Sports ran the same theme on July 5 under a headline about sacrificing numbers for wins.

Translate the diplomacy: the team's WR1-by-volume era is over, and everyone in the building knows it. Nova already prices this, the 19.9% target share on his page is last season's number, and the 854-yard projection implies it drifts lower, not that it holds.

The Buzz

The crowd has moved past faded into resigned. RotoBaller ranked him WR35 on June 30 and called him a "low-end WR3/high-end WR4" on July 10, with the one bullish note being more single coverage opposite Waddle. Dynasty rankings slid roughly 10 spots after the trade. That's a market pricing the bad news twice, once for Waddle, once for age, while Nova's rank-57 (vs. ADP 70) says one discount was enough.

Swing Factors

  • Waddle's target gravity (−30 pts): if Waddle imports even a 24% share, Sutton's 7.3 targets/game projection is the ceiling, not the base.
  • Red-zone monopoly (+25 pts): 20 projected red-zone opportunities and a 6.8-TD projection; Waddle has never been a red-zone hog, and this is where Sutton's line survives.
  • Webb's tempo tweaks (+15 pts): more plays per game raises all boats; the same share of a bigger pie quietly rescues the yardage number.
  • Age cliff (−40 pts): 31 in October. When 30-plus receivers lose it, they lose it mid-season, and the 73-point floor exists for exactly this reason.
  • Nix year three (+20 pts): a third-year leap from his quarterback is the cheapest path to Sutton's ceiling that nobody is pricing.

If Everything Goes Right

The three-wide rate climbs, defenses roll coverage to Waddle, and Sutton feasts on single coverage and goal-line fades from a leveled-up Nix, the sim's 90th percentile is ~324 points, a top-12 receiver season at a sixth-round price. Nova gives the Tier-2-or-better outcome 35%, and a full Tier-1 season 18%.

If Everything Goes Wrong

Waddle is simply better at 27 than Sutton is at 31, the target share slips into the mid-teens, and the touchdowns, always the load-bearing wall, regress. Now he's a TD-or-bust WR4 you can't trust, drifting toward the 73-point floor. The weekly bust rate (under 10 PPR points) is 38%: more than one week in three, even in the median world, he does nothing for you.

Nova's Edge

Two things nobody else is publishing. First, Nova is over Vegas on both of Sutton's props: 854.1 projected receiving yards against DraftKings' 799.5 line (+6.8%) and 6.8 receiving TDs against 6.5 (+4.6%). The market that prices everything sharpest agrees the fade went too far. Second, the distribution insight: an S+ DNA grade with an 11% boom rate is a specific weekly identity, Sutton is now the steadiest low-ceiling receiver on the board, a lineup floor-setter, not a league-winner. Sites publishing one number can't tell you that both things are true at once.

The Bottom Line

At ADP 70, the turn of rounds 5 and 6 in 12-team leagues, Sutton is a value; Nova has him 13 picks earlier. Draft him as your WR3 who plays like a WR2 in odd weeks, and prefer him in standard and half-PPR, where touchdowns weigh more and his modest catch volume weighs less. Do not pay a round-4 price expecting 2024 back; the 11% boom rate says that receiver isn't walking through the door. Gradeable claim for January: Sutton clears DraftKings' 799.5-yard line and posts double-digit PPR points in at least 60% of his games, that's what 52% solid plus the touchdown floor cashes out to.
